Playback Singer Alisha Chinai (also Alisha Chinoy) is a renowned name in Indian Pop Music as well as in Bollywood. It is said that Alisha Chinai was born as Sujata on 18th March 1972, later she changed her name to Alisha Chinai. She is one of the singers who started the trend of pop music in Indian, and gave it a new dimension. For her mesmerizing pop songs, she is regarded as “Indian Madonna“.
Alisha Chinai started her journey as a pop singer with albums like Jadoo, Aaah Alisha, Lover Girl, Madonna, Baby Doll etc., her album Made In India became the highest selling pop album of its time. This big success made Alisha Chinai a household name in India. Bappi Lahiri recognized her singing talent and gave her first break as playback singer in films. In the time of 80s, her biggest hit was a duet song “Kaate nahi kat te yeh din yeh raat” with Kishore Kumar for film Mr. India. Some of her hit songs were ‘Tere Ishq Mein Nachenge‘, ‘Ruk Ruk Ruk‘, ‘Sexy sexy sexy mujhe log bole‘.
Later Chinai stopped playback singing as she wanted to concentrate on private albums. During this period, she became part of a major controversy by accusing that Anu Malik had molested her. Many believed that it was only a publicity stunt by her just to promote her album ‘Made in India’. After this incident, she and Anu Malik did not work for some years.
In 2003, Alisha patched up with Anu Malik and again worked with him for film Ishq Vishq. She made her come back in playback singing by film Mujhse Dosti Karoge’s song “oh my darling i love you’, featuring Kareena Kapoor. She got her first and only Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer Award for song “Kajra re kajra re” for film Bunty aur Babli.
