Gangs of Wasseypur – A Desi Gangster Saga by Anurag Kashyap
Gangs of Wasseypur is a Bollywood crime movie, written, directed and produced by Anurag Kashyap and claimed to be his most expensive film. This two part gangster thrill film has Bollywood crazy criminals & goons. The film made it’s officially entry in famous Director’s Cut at Cannes International Film Festival 2012. Gangs of Wasseypur is a story of some gangs of a small town called Wasseypur, gangs which are ruthless but very filmy at the same time. More than five hours long epic gangster story showcases conflict of cruel & philander Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai) and cunning Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia).
Model-turned actress Huma Qureshi debuted in Bollywood by Gangs Of Wasseypur. Although it’s debut movie of Huma Qureshi, but she earned attention of every viewer by her beauty and acting skills. She has portrayed the role of a 90′s small town muslim girl Mohsina. Film ‘Oye Lucky Oye‘ fame actress Richa Chaddha superbly played Najma, first wife of Sardar Khan. Reema Sen played a sexy Bengali woman Durga, who falls in love with married Sardar Khan in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.
Anurag Kashyap persuaded Tigmanshu Dhulia (director of Pan Singh Tomar) to act in movie. Dhulia was little bit hesitant but finally he agreed to play main negative character, and he did complete justice to his role of Ramadhir Singh, a power crazy selfish politician. Casting of Gangs of Wasseypur is perfectly done by Mukesh Chhabara.
Story of Gangs Of Wasseypur
Gangs of Waseypur has been released in India in two parts. Story of 1st part of GOW starts with Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat), a notorious dacoit during end of colonial India, who turns up a worker at Ramdhir Singh’s coal mines to end up a generations old revenge fight, but later killed by Ramadhir Singh. His son Sardar Khan get shaved his head and takes vows to destroy Ramadhir Singh. He becomes most cruel & dangerous man of the small town. First part ends with injured Sardar Khan by many gun shots on a cart.
Faisal Khan (Played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui), younger son of Sardar Khan, is a Charsi who falls in love with Mohsina (Huma Qureshi). But in Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2, he becomes most powerful man of town. Faisal Khan wants to destroy Ramdhir Singh and take revenge of his father Sardar Khan and grandfather’s death. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a very talented actor who can easily get in the skin of any character. We have seen his commendable performance in Vidya Balan starrer ‘Kahaani,’ in which he played a cunning Intelligence Bureau officer.
There are total fourteen tracks in the movie, full of typical Bollywood nautanki style. Young talent Sneha Khanwalkar composed the music for Gangs of Wasseypur in her unique style, Piyush Mishra also composed certain songs of the film. Varun Grover and Piyush Mishra wrote different but catchy lyrics of GOW. Piyush Mishra not only composed songs of Gangs of Wasseypur but also acted in it.
